Learn Reading Comprehension in Arabic

Reading comprehension means truly understanding what you read — not just decoding the words, but knowing what they mean and why they matter. Three levels of understanding: • Right There: The answer is directly stated in the text (literal) • Think & Search: Combine ideas from different parts of the text • Author & Me: Use the text plus your own knowledge and experience Before-During-After strategy: • Before reading: Preview the title, headings, and images — what do you predict? • During reading: Stop after each paragraph. Ask: "What just happened?" • After reading: Summarize in 1–2 sentences. What was this mainly about? Finding the main idea: The main idea is the most important point the author wants you to understand. Details support it but are not the main idea. Ask: "If I had to tell a friend what this was about in one sentence, what would I say?" Using text evidence: When answering questions, always quote the text! Begin with: "According to the text..." or "In paragraph 2, it states..." Strong readers ask questions while reading and look for answers in the text.
