Every digit in a number has a place value — it tells you HOW MUCH that digit is worth based on its position in the number.
In the number 352:
• 3 is in the hundreds place → worth 300
• 5 is in the tens place → worth 50
• 2 is in the ones place → worth 2
• Total: 300 + 50 + 2 = 352
Place values from right to left:
Ones → Tens → Hundreds → Thousands → Ten-Thousands → Hundred-Thousands
Helpful tips:
• Moving LEFT: each place is 10 times bigger
• Moving RIGHT: each place is 10 times smaller
• Zero holds a place! In 305, the zero in the tens place means there are zero tens.
